March 22-25

Language Arts: This week we will work on making our writing more interesting with sentence variety. We will also be writing in our journals and reflecting on the year so far, as well as setting goals for the final quarter of school.

Reading: We are reading "The Rain Player" and discussing the art style of the book. Students will create an original piece of art in the style of the illustrator.

Because there is no school on Friday, there is NO SPELLING this week.

Math: We are learning about decimals and preparing for the MCA test.

Reminder: There is no school on Friday.

Conferences are next Monday and Tuesday.

Talent Show

The annual Rogers High School "Talent Show" will be held May 18th, 5:30-8:00 pm.

Kids who wants to try out can get a permission slip from the office and bring it back to the office by Monday, March 22nd.

The Audition Date is March 25th, Thursday.

This is a fun event for kids to show their talents in front of many people. Tickets will go on sale the week of May 3rd.

Language Arts: We are completing our poetry unit this week with couplets and raps. We will be writing and recording raps.

Reading: We will be reading "The Great Kapok Tree" and learning about the rain forest and the animals that live there. The spelling words this week are:

Math: We will finish chapter 8 this week. We will study perimeter, area, and volume. We will be taking the chapter 8 test at the end of this week.

Make sure to practice multiplication facts. A great way to practice is to play the card games we learned on Friday. If you keep a deck of cards by the TV you can press the mute button during commercial breaks and play a quick card game. It's a great way to practice and saves you from watching a bunch of advertisements.

Week of March 1-5

Can you believe March is here already?! The sunshine is a welcome change from the gray skies we've grown accostomed to over the past few months.

This week in Language Arts we will be wrapping up our poetry unit by writing and recording raps. The raps are written in an AA BB rhyme pattern and performed over a 4/4 drum beat. We will also continue to read "Horns & Wrinkles" and write in our journals.

In reading we will be reading "Swimming with Sea Lions" and poetry about animals. We will be completing an art project that ties to the animal poetry and we will be talking about diaries and journals. Our weekly reading goal is to complete 100 minutes of at home reading.
