November 8-12

Math: This week we practiced addition and subtraction in preparation for our chapter 3 test. We also did an introductory algebra lesson where students completed equations with missing factors.

Reading: This week we read the story "Might Jackie: The Strikeout Queen" and talked about women leaders in sports. Students worked to figure out the author's purpose of different stories and articles. The main reasons things are written are to persuade, inform, and entertain.

Language Arts: This week students completed a writing assignment about who they look up to. Students wrote rough drafts, edited, and created final drafts.

Math: Today we practiced different subtraction strategies. Students practiced doing subtraction with large numbers.
Homework: Page 115 #7-19

Reading: We worked in our book clubs today. Book clubs are to complete their novel by November 29. We also took the first part of the unit 1 exam.
Homework: Read at home

Language Arts: We read and discussed It Took Courage, about Thurgood Marshall, Martin Luther King, and Ruby Bridges. Students discussed what it takes to be a hero. We also played a game to practice making inferences.
