September 13

Reading: This week we will be starting our first unit of the new reading series. We will be reading "My Diary From Here to There" about a girl whose family moves to a new home. We will be discussing what it's like to move about how things can change.

We will also be starting our new spelling series. This year students will not bring home a list of spelling words to study, rather they will have a spelling skill to work on each week. This week we are working on short vowel words. We will practice spelling words with short vowel sounds, like sum, flat, cat, wealth, and cash, but those words will not necessarily show up on the test. Words with similar spelling patterns will be tested. This is done so we can assess weather or not the student has mastered the skill rather than simply memorized a list of words. This is a new thing so it will take some getting used to for students, teachers, and parents.

Math: Coordinate grids and ordered pairs.
Math Homework: Page 13 #10-34
